It couldn't be a poor job of individual lifeguards, or the fault of the swimmers, of course it is the governments fault. WRONG! There is such a thing as personal responsibility on the part of the lifeguards and on the part of those that use the pools and beaches. How many times have there been drownings of drunk russians and arabs that can't swim, or even good swimmers going into the water in rough conditions unsuitable for swimming? I suppose that is the fault of the government too. Maybe the government should offer free swimming lessons to every citizen in the country- on second thought- let's give free lessons to ANYONE, whether they are citizens or not, afterall haven't illegal workers from Bulgaria drowned too..There are some fine lifeguards out there that really put their hearts into the work, and like every profession, there are those that don't give a rat's ass about their job or the people they are supposed to protect. But, it is very wrong to now condemn the entire profession as not having the proper training. As a former lifeguard, I can't tell you how many times I've seen parents come to the pool with their little children and then go and talk to friends without keeping an eye, let alone a hand on their children. This is disgraceful. In addition, someone that can't swim, shouldn't be near the water in the first place, it is not the lifeguards job to protect these people from their own inability to swim and their own decisions to take their own life into their own hands, it's just another example of MAGIA LI and Y'HIYE BESEDER.
