Reality is that the HGP (Human Genome Project) was a failure.
The assumption of finding 125,000 genes in the human ended up with only 25,000 about the same amount as in the ''famous'' worm ''Cenorhabditias elegans'' an organism with only 1271 cells
The assumption that the truth is to be found in the DNA only failed.
Despite the failure of the HGP to find 100,000 genes and the discovery that genes are not self - emergent the public (and obviously Maariv readers as well) continue to believe in genetic determinism.
What is called today the new Biology shows that the DNA and Genes are reacting and CHANGING when they are engaged in their environment.
This has real profound future implications. It means that it is up to us to contribute to changes in our DNA (and therefore our health).
