I have stayed in the Maldives for more than a week in a luxury resort, and I have to say that it is not as much fun as you imagine. Each resort is located on its own remote island. That means that you are stuck on one tiny island that has your hotel and nothing else (no natives either -- really nothing)...Only a few islands are close to Male the capital, and the rest are far away from it. It is nice for 2 days, but then becoming boring and a little suffocating. Diving is not as it used to be either -- the water is far from the clarity of the Red Sea, much of the reefs were destroyed by tropical storms and the colors are not there. In short, I think that it may be suitable for honey-mooners, but definitely not for the most of us. Go to Mauritius, caribbean or any other islands that are populated and have space to stretch a little. Scenery wise it is all quite similar.
